Hello and Welcome!

Due to current events, I have decided to incorporate some things from my professional life into my personal site because I see a need in my community.

There are students who are too afraid or unable to attend school right now because grown-ups have absolutely lost the plot.

I have historically maintained this site to share projects and travel pics with my dad. He is a bit of a technophobe (Hi Dad! You know it’s true but I love you anyway). I am an expert in a field that has significant influence on the daily lives of my friends, colleagues, fellow scientists and educators, and students around the world. I have the ability and expertise to work towards helping ensure students receive the course materials they need. Maybe one person cannot make much of a difference, but it is irresponsible not to try.

The people of LinkedIn can somehow safely straddle the immense void between things you should be embarassed to post publicly and a professional job search platform, yet somehow manage to cross those paths daily while remaining employed. I think if that remains true I can post my research, reviews, and vacation photos in one spot.

Standards Aligned Course Materials – Work in Progress

I have seen a number of educators sharing how many students are afraid or unable to attend school due to current events. As an education specialist and curriculum designer, I have decided to use my skills to provide resources for students who need them. This will be very bare bones, textbooks, what resources I can find that are free to use.

If you are an educator, parent, or student in need of learning materials that you can use to meet the state standards, I am working my way through compiling standards aligned curriculum using only free materials that do not require a login in the Educated tab.

Here you will also find some information about locating a AP testing centers, taking CBE Exams, etc.

Honest and Unsponsored Reviews of Apps and Learning Materials

As I compile courses, I will be reviewing the content of various sites and apps both free and subscription based. If you are interested in unsponsored reviews of learning materials and apps, you can find them on the Unsponsored Reviews page.

Conversations Around GenAI in the Classroom

Current conversations about AI in the classroom are treated as binary outputs. You are either all for AI everything or labeled a technophobe. But the truth is, AI is really a developing science and classroom adoption is necessary, but also must be approached with caution.

As a quantitative analyst, I prefer more a more factual and evidenced based approach to AI and its implementation. What is is good at, how can it be used today, and where to approach with caution.

You can see my findings, musings, and output evaluations here in my Quantitative Ramblings.

Opportunities to Contribute

If you are a tutor or educator willing to share a page breakdown from an OpenStax textbook that meets your state standards for any course please Contact me. I am happy to give you credit for your contribution (or not if you prefer) and add a link to your tutoring side hustle.

I am also interested in your feedback and opinions on apps or resources that you have implemented in the classroom, or absolutely hated.

Who am I and why am I qualified to have an opinion?

About me

I have a PhD in Measurement and Quantitative Methods from the College of Education at Michigan State University. During my PhD I was working as an analyst and subject matter expert for an NGSS aligned science learning intervention. I wrote my dissertation on the evaluation of automated scoring algorithms of NGSS aligned science assessments, lead an international investigation into student engagement in online science courses. And studied the automated content development of 11 AP courses in science, social science, and history.

More

I like to do all the things, I like to see all the places, and want to share the best parts with the people I love. I moved about 6600km from my family and I have used this place to share with them without having to listen to the rage bots on social media.

I love to travel and see new places as often as possible. I am blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth. This is my adventure.

I also have a lot of hobbies. Too many hobbies. You can see what I share with my dad here if you’re nosy. I am not the world’s greatest artist. But sometimes I still want to share with him. He even tells me he some of it is almost not bad!
